The best CFW is in my own opinion is M33’s still, I know there are others out now with a newer firmware base but 5.00m33-6 is without a doubt the best, in terms of stability etc! There are even more benefits such as theme’ing but I won’t get too complicated for now, just understand it opens the PSP to hundreds of more possibilities! Play more than PSP games! You can now use emulators to play other console games such as GameBoy and even unique homebrew games such as CSPSP!

If you ever install something bad on the psp and you think you have bricked the psp (AKA nothing happens when you turn it on then have no fear holding R when you turn on will access the recovery menu and from here you can re-install the PSP Operating System) Overclock the PSP, the PSP is bound to a 222mhz clock with CFW you can overclock to 333mhz and YES everything does load quicker but remember people this will kill your battery faster, so be rational. – You can now boot your UMDs from memory stick by converting them to images (ISOs)! -This often significantly reduces load times, if you have ever played Midnight club dub edition and know how long the load scenes in that game are (LONG) then after you have run it via image it seems like a tottally different game, much better. While the console is great it has some flaws but don’t threat they can be sorted out by simply installing a Custom Firmware (CFW)! Much alike jailbreaking an iPod touch!
